Quote Time: Chanel

I'll be frequently posting interesting quotes of random fashion faces.

Today is the time of some Coco Chanel Quotes.

“In order to be irreplaceable one must always be different.”

Coco, also know as Gabrielle Bonheur Chanel, after opening her first millinery shop in 1912 in Paris, became one of the premier fashion designers in France. Replacing corset with comfort and casual elegance, her fashion themes included simple suits and dresses, women's trousers, costume jewellery, perfume and textiles.

“Don't spend time beating on a wall, hoping to transform it into a door.”

Coco claimed a birth date of 1893, but she was actually born in 1883 . She adopted name "Coco" during a brief career as a cafe and concert singer in 1905-1908.

"The best color in the whole world, is the one that looks good, on you!”

She introduced her signature cardigan jacket in 1925, and signature "little black dress" in 1926. Most of her fashions had staying power, and didn't change much from year to year, or even generation to generation.

“I love luxury. And luxury lies not in richness and ornateness but in the absence of vulgarity. Vulgarity is the ugliest word in our language. I stay in the game to fight it.”

Even though her early years were anything but glamorous, Coco Chanel became and stayed a fashion icon for her simple yet sophisticated outfits, paired with great accessories.

"Dress shabbily and they remember the dress; dress impeccably and they remember the woman."
